Supporting LGU Villanueva’s evidence-based approach to community development

SPI recognizes its role in helping steer local development by actively participating in efforts that enhance the capacity of the local development mechanisms in addressing critical social development issues and concerns. Recently, SPI turned over several electronic equipment to the Local Government of Villanueva for the implementation of its Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).

The CBMS is an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data that may be used for planning. program implementation and impact monitoring at the local level while empowering communities to participate in the process.

The Villanueva CBMS program was launched by the LGU Villanueva in partnership with the DILG, PSA, and SPI. The program includes household surveys, data processing, analysis, and developmental planning to formulate evidence-based poverty reduction plans and strategies.

In 2015, SPI also launched Project Empowering (Enhanced Monitoring System on Poverty Watch for a more Effective and Responsive Approach in Governance) for the CBMS of the 23 municipalities and two component cities in Misamis Oriental.

The project is a component of SPI’s EGoLD [Enhancing Governance for Local Development] Program designed to help build the capacities of its institutional and community partners in development and consistent with the company’s commitment to community empowerment.
