In an effort to strengthen a culture of safety and sustainability, the 2025 SPI Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE) Committee has outlined a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at embedding good workplace health and safety practices across all levels of the organization, including contractors. The Committee’s agenda is centered around three key principles: embedding, innovating, and collaborating. This includes instilling safety-conscious behaviors in everyday work, deepening knowledge of workplace health and safety to broaden understanding, and fostering collective action to address emerging safety challenges.

This year, the Committee is committed to further strengthening workplace safety and health by focusing on the following objectives:

• Minimizing, if not eliminating, property damage caused by vehicular accidents.
• Preventing personnel injuries by promoting the proper use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.
• Sustaining Goal Zero—ensuring zero lost time incidents, accidents, and occupational diseases/illnesses.

The Committee has also laid out strategic initiatives to support these objectives through increasing Preventative Actions in Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) by encouraging proactive reporting and intervention to mitigate risks before they result in incidents; Adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI), Automation, and Related Technologies by leveraging innovative tools to enhance workplace safety monitoring and hazard detection; and Build Worker Capability to Manage Psychosocial Hazards by implementing training and support systems to ensure compliance with regulations on mental health and well-being at work.

Recognizing that workplace safety is a shared responsibility, the Committee emphasizes the importance of collaboration among employees, leadership, and contractors. Through continuous engagement, education, and the implementation of safety solutions, the organization aims to foster a safer, healthier, and more resilient workplace environment in 2025 and beyond. With these proactive measures, the SSHE Committee is set to lead the way in workplace safety excellence, setting a benchmark for industry-wide best practices.
