SPI and E. Pelaez Ranch Incorporated have strengthened their partnership on environmental sustainability with the signing of a Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Mapawa Carbon Sink Project. Mapawa, a pioneering reforestation and conservation initiative in the country, spans 1,200 hectares of forest land in Cagayan de Oro City. The project began two decades ago, highlighting our long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.
The agreement reaffirms our commitment to develop further and sustain the carbon sink initiative, which aims to contribute to climate change mitigation through forest conservation and enhancement activities in the Mapawa area.
The MOA signing was witnessed by key government agencies, including the Environmental Management Bureau – Region X (EMB-X), represented by Director Reynaldo Digamo, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region X (DENR-X), and members of the Multi-Partite Monitoring Team (MMT), highlighting the project’s compliance with environmental regulations and its alignment with national sustainability objectives.
The Mapawa Carbon Sink Project is part of SPI’s broader environmental responsibility program, focusing on long-term ecological protection, carbon sequestration, and collaboration with local partners. Through the supplemental MOA, both SPI and EPRI expressed their continued commitment to responsible land management and environmental protection.
This renewed partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between the private sector and environmental authorities in advancing climate action and promoting sustainable development in Northern Mindanao.
