SPI Supports Global Ocean Health with Successful Cleanup in Villanueva’s Coastal Area

Around 36 power plant workers of SPI recently participated in the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), held in Villanueva’s coastal area under the theme “Clean Seas for Blue Economy.” The ICC is the largest volunteer initiative worldwide focused on promoting ocean health, held every third Saturday of September.

The cleanup activity was a collaborative event involving several Cagayan de Oro and Villanueva companies. Volunteers from SPI covered a 500-meter stretch along the shore and collected 112 kilograms of trash. Among the items recovered were food wrappers, plastic materials, bottle caps, foam, diapers, shoes, and even fishing traps.

The collected waste was carefully segregated, and LGU Villanueva took responsibility for its proper disposal.

This initiative underscores SPI’s commitment to environmental sustainability and supporting global efforts in preserving marine ecosystems.
