Helping address the prevalence of child-wasting

Energy firm STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI), together with its LGU partners in Tagoloan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental hosts a series of child nourishment and responsible parenting seminar attended by parents and local health workers to help curb the gnawing problem on malnutrition and wasting.

The seminar underscores the importance of proper nourishment, especially during the child’s very early stage in life or the first 1,000 days from conception to two years. Child-wasting or stunting, which refers to children being too short for their age, is a severe health threat that could cause irreversible damage to brain capacity. A 2017 UNICEF Global Nutrition Report revealed that more than 29,000 children are dying annually due to the high prevalence of undernutrition in the Philippines.
